Studies in Becoming

A study of shifting states, this body of work approaches portraiture as a process rather than a fixed image. The face is treated as a site of continual change, where emotion, memory, and presence surface only momentarily before dissolving.

Each work develops through gesture, fragments of colour, and deliberately unresolved marks. Forms emerge and recede within the surface, at times dissolving into abstraction, at others coalescing into brief moments of clarity.

What remains are not portraits in the conventional sense, but traces—fleeting articulations of vulnerability, tension, contemplation, and quiet intensity.

These works consider identity as something in flux, shaped through constant transition rather than permanence. Situated between formation and disappearance, the portraits hold a fragile threshold where the face becomes a reflection of an interior state.
